A few yacht builders offer what they call crossover yachts, or ones that mix classic motoryacht lines with more rugged or exploration-focused features. For Sanlorenzo, “crossover” means classic motoryacht looks blended with sportier, adventure-oriented looks. The Sanlorenzo SX100 yacht, which just hit U.S. shores this year, succeeds in two seemingly disparate ways. She is truly unconventional in looks and layout, yet she’s about as sensible and traditional as you can get in offering multiple seaside relaxation areas for you and your family.

Part of the same crossover range that includes the upcoming Sanlorenzo SX120 yacht, the project springs from the drawing boards of Zuccon International Project. With the shipyard, the designers push the superstructure forward purposely to create an expansive beach area. You’re hard pressed to find another 100-foot (30.-meter) megayacht with this much open deck space at the waterline. The haunch-like sides lend the illusion of even more space. For real extra space, the side platforms fold down, perfect for setting up loose furniture. Another plus, the center of the swim platform lowers for swimmers.

You’re further hard pressed to find a lower lounge like the one aboard the Sanlorenzo SX100 yacht. It’s much more than a beach club, and arguably more like the main saloon, despite being slightly sunken and directly off the beach area. Regardless, it’s a cozy lounge you’ll want to spend time in day or night, given the wall of glass aft, which naturally opens. Follow the lead of the yacht the shipyard imported into the United States and put daybeds adjacent to that glass (above). Conveniently, this chill-out zone, for you to tailor with seating and/or a bar, is straight off the guest corridor just aft.
Three guest staterooms are on this same deck, in fact, as is the galley. The Sanlorenzo SX100 yacht reserves space for owners on the main deck, including a wide window above the bed. Lissoni & Partners, the interior-design team, works with buyers to ensure their stateroom, and the rest of the pocket superyacht, has an air of warm, welcoming elegance. Striking curves, especially noticeable in the stairway connecting the lower and main decks, lend softness as well.

Although other 100-footers are tridecks, the third deck aboard the Sanlorenzo SX100 yacht is more spacious than most. Once again, it’s for personalizing. Turn it into an extra lounge, for instance, or make it the primary dining area. Louvers overhead combine with full-height, opening glass aft to make it airy.

Unconventional design for design’s sake often results in impractical solutions. However, Sanlorenzo and its design partners rethought space allocations with purpose for the crossover series. The SX100 may just convince some buyers that this unusual design is an arrangement whose time has come.
