“If a yacht is to be truly bespoke, then so must its deck,” asserts Alejandro Crespo Daroca, founder of Daroca Design. “The deck is not a separate element but an integral part of the design. It is where my vision becomes tangible.” This explains why the REAL yacht concept from his studio carries her exterior styling design directly into the surface underfoot on each level.

Specifically, the same lines you see running fore to aft and from port to starboard reflect in the decking material. They’re therefore anything but traditional patterns. Simultaneously, they’re patterns not possible with teak. Daroca knew this, plus knew that Bolidt, which specializes in faux teak that can mimic teak quite closely, would be up for a creative twist. So, too, was Oceanco, upon whose Simply Custom platform the REAL yacht concept builds. Briefly, Simply Custom provides a set engineering platform, upon which designers and clients can tailor the rest, including the LOA, starting at 262 feet (80 meters).

“Oceanco gave us the freedom to explore this idea,” Daroca says. Note, for instance, the colors and shapes of the decking flanking the aft-deck pool. Bolidt allows designers to request particular patterns, colors, and even structures. They can draw from a maritime influence, somewhat like the blues in this superyacht concept, or other elements of Mother Nature. Additionally, they can draw inspiration from art or architecture. This therefore allows for more variations and more creativity than wood. As Robert van Aarle, director maritime & defense of Bolidt, says, “Designers bring the vision, owners bring their dreams, and we provide the expertise to translate them into material and application.”

Although the decking for this project breaks with tradition, Daroca used restraint. In fact, he embraced a minimalist approach, to prevent the deck from detracting from the whole. “The deck speaks the same language as the yacht itself,” he says. “For us, this is the essence of integrated design,” he concludes.
