A familiar face is back at the helm of the Turkish shipyard Numarine. Patrik von Sydow has taken over as chief executive officer at what he calls “a pivotal moment.”
Von Sydow may be best known for most recently being CEO of Turquoise Yachts. He spent the past six years there, in fact, where several new contract signings and highly publicized deliveries took place. However, he was also at Numarine from 2010 to 2012, a time when the builder was still growing its reputation and its model offerings. Ömer Malaz, Numarine’s founder and chairman (below, with Sydow), established the brand in 2002. Drawing on his experience with performance boating and engineering, he saw an opportunity to introduce head-turning long-range motoryachts to the global market. Within a few years, Malaz decided explorer-style yachts would hold even stronger appeal.

“We are delighted to welcome Patrik back to Numarine,” he says. Among von Sydow’s first order of business will be to add new contracts and new models to the range. Simultaneously, he’ll open new markets for the yachts. “His experience in leading some of the industry’s most respected shipyards, combined with his deep understanding of our culture and product philosophy, make him uniquely qualified for this role,” Malaz continues. Of course, Malaz himself is remaining involved, focusing on partnerships and long-term strategies.
“Numarine has built an impressive position in the explorer-yacht segment, and I am excited to rejoin the team at such a pivotal moment,” von Sydow says. He especially notes loyal customers “and a clear product identity” as reasons why the CEO position is enticing.

That product identity spans semi-custom superyachts in sizes from 74 to 153 feet (22 to 47 meters). The Numarine 27XP yacht (above) is one, for instance, revealed just this year. She’s an 88-footer that should be capable of a 2,200-nautical-mile range. She also offers broader choices than many megayachts in her size range, including a main-deck VIP stateroom.
