Hands-On: The TAG Heuer x Fragment Design Glassbox Carrera Is A Masterclass In Collaboration

While the design has very little to criticize, I think pricing is the biggest elephant in the room. It is shocking to think of a Carrera coming close to the ten-thousand-dollar mark. The Fragment edition sits around two thousand dollars above the standard black dial on bracelet, and that’s quite a hefty premium for a limited-edition collaboration.

Sure, there are most definitely additional costs associated with the PVD process for the bracelet, as well as other bespoke details, but that’s probably why the 500-piece run isn’t fully sold out online at the time I’m writing this. It seems to be the biggest feedback that I’ve seen with my friends, both serious watch collectors and not — the design is awesome, the price is not.

But for me, maybe I’m that kind of sucker who can justify a premium for a design that feels incredibly special in person. Or maybe it’s because I’ve always wanted to own the modern Glassbox Carrera, but I always put that thought to the side until something more special came along. Regardless, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Fragment limited edition is an example of collaborative design at its finest, and a few weeks later, I’m still thrilled with mine.
