Her glass-surrounded pools and open aft deck lend superyacht sophistication. Yet, her chiseled bow and angular deckhouse lend her an air of serious ocean travel. Is she a posh traveler or an intrepid traveler? If you ask Ocean King, the shipyard that came up with her, the yacht Ocean Angel is a bit of both.
Ocean Angel launched over the summer, the second in Ocean King’s Doge 400 series. Each project in the series incorporates a steel displacement hull for long-range cruising, According to the shipyard, best range should be 4,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. Additionally, each megayacht bears RINA’s unrestricted navigation classification. All of this is in a 132-foot (40-meter) LOA, the domain of fiberglass semi-displacement and planing yachts. Complementing the long-range goals, the Italian studio Design aLOT penned aft-raked wheelhouse windows and sculpted lines that convey an air of determination.
Of course, Ocean King wants megayacht buyers to feel equally at ease in their favorite anchorages. Therefore, creature comforts you’d expect to find on any modern yacht are in abundance. Slide-open glass walls to each side of the dining room, for example, make meals during warm Mediterranean or Caribbean days and nights more enjoyable. Since wellness is such a big part of the cruising experience, the beach club isn’t just a lounge. Instead, it incorporates a gym—with fold-down platforms—along with a sauna and a hammam, plus watertoys.
One of the best features aboard is just outside the gym, in fact. Surprisingly, it’s the primary alfresco dining area. If you’re getting the impression that most things aboard the yacht Ocean Angel are different, you’re correct. Not only is the dining area here, but also it’s sunken. Between that and tucking slightly under the overhang from the main deck, it looks and feels more private.
