Tureddi’s Azzurra 36 Yacht Coin Ceremony Commemorates Construction

This week the traditional welding of a coin to a small part of what will eventually become a superyacht occurred in Pisa, Italy. The ceremony marked the start of construction for the first Azzurra 36 yacht at Tureddi Yachts. The ceremony held further special significance, since it marked the first project overall for Tureddi Yachts, a supplier-turned-builder.

Tureddi Yachts dates back about four decades. During that time, it has made steel and aluminum hulls and superstructures, plus built full workboats and commercial vessels. As yachts grew in size and in demand during the 1990s, builders like Benetti, Codecasa, and Sanlorenzo relied on it. In fact, it played a role in the completion of about 60 megayachts. Alessandro Tureddi, the son of the founder and currently the company’s head, believed the market would welcome it as a full-fledged yacht builder. Specifically, he believed it could compete in the 30-meter (98-foot) and up semi-custom segment, plus offer fully custom craft.

The owner of the first Azzurra 36 yacht, which is a 118-footer (36-meter), attended the coin ceremony. The project features a fast-displacement hull in steel by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. Sporty styling, meanwhile, across four decks is by Giamboi Designs, based in Italy. Yet another Italian firm, the high-profile Pininfarina, is handling interiors. “We want to work together with Alessandro’s team, Pininfarina, Giamboi, and Ruggiero to create something absolutely special,” the owner says. In fact, the owner envisions the Azzurra 36 yacht as being “a new benchmark for Tureddi.”

“We love creating memories,” the owner continues, referencing his family, “and there is no better place to make them than on a boat with my family and grandchildren.” To that end, the megayacht will have accommodations for a large party, 12 people. Eight crewmembers will have cabins, too. Although specifics aren’t yet available for the décor, an abundance of natural light is a priority.

“I would like to thank the owner for his trust,” notes Alessandro Tureddi. The Azzurra 36 yacht is more than just a project, too, for him and the shipyard. She’s “symbolizing our evolution from over 40 years as a trusted manufacturer to a builder of bespoke superyachts.” Luciano Aglioni, Tureddi Yachts’ sales director, agrees, saying, “Azzurra represents the essence of our philosophy—a blend of tradition, innovation, and family values.”

Even though delivery won’t take place until the summer of 2027, the owner is already thinking farther down the road. “The 36m is just the beginning,” he says. “Perhaps we will build something even bigger together in the very near future. I am happy to be part of this project, and so is my family.”
