Ferretti Yachts 800 Yacht Broadens Horizons for First-Time Megayacht Buyers

Having a range of models allows a yacht builder to grow customers gradually through the size ranks. When the models start at 50 feet and top out around 100 feet (15 meters and 30.5 meters, respectively), brand-loyal buyers have an easier time dipping their toes into superyachts. The Ferretti Yachts 800 yacht is the entry point for the Italian builder’s clients. She preserves what they enjoy about the smaller models, simultaneously providing them with their first taste of large luxury and more customization.

The series is the newest in an overall flying-bridge range redesign. In 2018, Ferretti Yachts set out to restyle its popular Flybridge offerings, gradually introducing a new family look. The latest, and last, model with the new profile is the Ferretti Yachts 800 yacht, one of eight Flybridge models overall. The new looks largely focus on lessening real and perceived barriers between the onboard experience and the surrounding seascapes. So, for instance, walls of glass wrap around the 80-footer’s (24.5-meter’s) main-deck leisure areas. In fact, an optional sliding glass door to starboard in the dining area easily could become the most frequently requested feature.  Either way, the 19-foot (nearly 6-meter) beam looks and feels more open and airy.

While in years past, Ferretti Yachts offered a similar-size model, this new megayacht follows current space requests. Americans in particular always want the galley on the main deck, regardless of having a full-time chef. Ferretti Yachts not only positions it directly forward of the dining area, but also adds practical and pleasant surprises. Firstly, it has direct access to the port side deck for provisioning and for bringing cocktails and hors d’oeuvres to the bow chill-out zone. By that same token, owners and guests can help themselves to snacks when they’re outside. Secondly, it has direct access to the helm, also to port, yet further to starboard via the hallway. Since the crew mess is tucked to starboard in the wheelhouse, it’s sensible to make service for the three capable hands running the yacht simpler as well.

Stepping up in size means more space for friends and family. The Ferretti Yachts 800 yacht accommodates everyone, including the owners, below decks in four staterooms. Production yachts about 10 feet smaller in length can have the same number of accommodations. However, they include at least one shared head. By contrast, the two twin staterooms and VIP stateroom aboard this new model each have private heads. Another advantage: The twins can slide together to form a single bed. Of course, the cozy, 194-square-foot (18-square-meter) master suite has a private head as well. Occupying the full beam, it uses the en suite bath and walk-in closet as a buffer from the engine room.

From the lower deck to the main deck, owners also have more customization at their fingertips. The Italian design studio Ideaeitalia works alongside buyers to incorporate special touches, additionally offering two décor packages. Classic emphasizes earthy tones, while Contemporary brings the colors of the sea aboard. Furthermore, flexible room arrangements mean more ways to make friends and family feel at home. For example, the saloon has a custom-made sofa to port, perfect for enjoying the view out the open aft-deck doors—and through the glass wall at the far end of the aft deck. Combine it with a TV cabinet, a TV cabinet with extra stowage, or a second sofa, all possible opposite.

Since the flying bridge is the calling card for the Flybridge range, the Ferretti Yachts 800 yacht delights up top. Upwards of 431 square feet (40 square meters) unfolds with freestanding sun lounges/seating, dining, a bar and grill combo, and a helm with two seats. A long L-shape lounge is directly next to the helm, too, for chatting with the captain and maybe learning a lesson or two about navigation. Every space revolves around conversation and togetherness, whether the yacht is at anchor or underway at a reported 27-knot top end. (That speed and a 15-knot cruise are with the standard 1,550-hp MANs. The optional 1,800-hp MANs promise a 31-knot max and 27-knot cruise.) Finally, because even open-air enjoyment sometimes comes with a quest for shade, opening louvers or a fixed glass panel can fit in the center of the hardtop.

This new 80-footer may be a big step up for some Ferretti Yachts clients, as well as buyers from other brands. Yet, she isn’t so large as to make the ownership experience overwhelming. Some of these buyers may just find that she’ll whet their appetite for their next large-yacht purchase.
