The American owners of the yacht Big Naan didn’t just commission a chiseled, purposeful-looking megayacht. They have a contemporary, colorful cruiser capable of taking them to far-off destinations. They further have a compact floating home—138 feet (42 meters)—replete with mementos from their travels.

Big Naan launched in May as the first Columbus Crossover 42 series hull. Columbus Yachts and Hydro Tec, responsible for naval architecture and styling, initiated the series to attract those who relish long journeys and explorer-like lines yet the flexibility to switch from exploration mode to full-on luxury-entertaining mode at a moment’s notice. This helps explain the design of the aft deck. It’s long and open for stowing big watertoys, including a 19-foot (5.9-meter) tender. Notably, Columbus Yachts says a tender up to 36 feet (11 meters) could easily fit here. Regardless, launch and retrieval comes thanks to a crane integrated into the starboard bulwark.

Even with this, the aft deck is equally suited to long days at anchor thanks to loose furnishings. It’s further due to the pool. The pool is one of the distinguishing features of the yacht Big Naan. Certainly, most superyachts these days incorporate pools. However, this 600-cubic-foot (17-cubic-meter) pool descends about six and a half feet (2 meters) into the lower deck. What’s more, the sunken sections are entirely structural glass, and bring light into the beach club. It’s as practical as it is a conversation piece for the beach club—which switches from a gym to a massage area as wished.
Given her range exceeding 5,500 nautical miles, the yacht Big Naan places a wide variety of destinations within the realm of possibility. After a day of shoreside exploring or enjoying the waters of an anchorage with watertoys, the owners and their guests can retire to the open, flowing, yet intimate rooms inside. Lighting design was as important as the metals, marbles, and colorful fabric and art bursts to create different moods throughout the day.

One of the most inviting areas aboard is the saloon. Immediately inside the doors from the aft deck, a woven-metal-clad bar greets everyone. Colorful art with a graffiti-like aesthetic adorns the wall just opposite, selected with the designers from Hot Lab. A big, curving seating area practically beckons guests to sit with their drink and relax a while. They can contemplate the design of the micro-perforated metal ceiling, or the equally artistic dining area light fixture. Even with marble and dark wood paneling throughout the room, it doesn’t feel too precious. In fact, a cozy snack bar sits fully forward, peeking into the galley.

From the five guest staterooms below to the media/gaming room on the upper deck, visitors step into a voluminous atmosphere aboard the yacht Big Naan. Despite her 138 feet of length, she has a volume of 445 gross tons. It lends her a more ample feel, complementing those distant shores that her owners intend to visit.
